Teaching Style

My teaching style uses a mix of techniques and activities to guarantee that you feel enough progress in a class that you want to come back for more!

If you are looking for an engaging and innovative teacher, you have come to the right place. I am a well-rounded instructor that uses various teaching methods ranging from mnemonic devices to remember grammar rules to using performance techniques to gain speaking confidence.

In my classes, there are typically three factors: vocabulary acquisition, structure practice, and a sense of achievement at the end of the session. For this reason, I use a mix of spaced repetition for vocabulary and difficult structures with flashcards (used dynamically in classes), integrated directly into the conversation – that way it doesn’t feel like the focus is on grammar, and at the end of the session, you can feel as if you have progressed.

Spaced Repetition Software is a powerful software that helps students to remember things. Spaced repetition software is made up of three main parts: the repetitiveness schedule, the presentation, and the retrieval schedule. It is designed to help students learn new information by pushing information into their long-term memory with constant repetition of the same material over long periods of time.

In short, it uses the idea that your brain forgets at a predictable rate, and if you are reminded of things at just the right time, it holds the information for longer and longer at each repetition. It feels a bit strange the first few times your experience it, but it definitely leaves you with a sense of having achieved something by the end of it! One of my favourite things about it is that it is 100% customisable, allowing new vocabulary that has come up in the class to be added to the individual student’s or group’s «deck» of flashcards.
