About Me

My name is Hollis Céitinn Ó Conchubhair. I am from a town in rural Ireland called Tipperary. I went to the University of Sheffield to study modern languages (Russian, Spanish and German). While doing my year abroad, I ended up in Bilbao and have been here ever since. I currently hold a degree in Business, Enterprise and Community development. I have a passion for culture and learning, and am currently doing another course in Leadership and Management with a focus on language revival.

I have been teaching English in Bilbao and its surrounding areas for 4 years, and teaching in summer camps in Ireland and Spain for over a decade. I am currently working on an extracurricular project in a primary school in Barakaldo where we are maintaining a garden using English as the medium of instruction.

I have a passion for all things languages – I spend about 15 hours a week studying and practicing languages including Spanish, Russian, German, Irish, Esperanto, French and Toki Pona. As a teacher of English, it is important to be able to put myself in the shoes of my students and the fact that I spend so much time learning languages allows me deep insight into how to manage others’ learning.

When I’m not teaching or learning languages, I am usually reading, playing music or juggling. While at university, I played gigs in bars to earn money on the side, and even started playing weddings (until Covid19 came along and ruined my plans).

I currently live in Santurtzi with my girlfriend Oihane and our dog, Ivy. Our joint hobbies include getting stuck in Escape Rooms, playing Pool, and hiking.
